Securities Fraud And Investment Disputes
Theo has been a member of PIABA (the Public Investor Arbitration Bar Association) since 2003, representing investors in arbitrations against their brokers (as well as aggrieved securities industry professionals in employment disputes against their former employers). Theo has represented clients, many of them elderly, pursuing claims of unsuitable trading, unauthorized trading, churning, supervisory lapses, bond disputes, fraud, and clearing company liability. Notably, arbitration is very different from civil litigation: claimants do not have their cases heard before a judge or a jury of their peers; discovery is very limited; and, it is exceedingly difficult to successfully appeal an adverse arbitration ruling. Theo has squared off against many of the most familiar names on Wall Street, and while no guaranty can be made that he will ultimately succeed on your behalf, he can guaranty that he will fight tenaciously for you. In 2006, Theo joined PIABA’s Arbitrator Recruitment Committee, enlisting his efforts to “level the playing field” for investors and employees who submit disputes to FINRA arbitration. FINRA claims to promote “market integrity” and “investor protection”. In representing aggrieved investors, Theo endeavors to hold the securities industry up to these high standards. A MESSAGE TO DOCTORS AND OTHER MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

Employment Disputes
Theo commenced his legal career in labor relations representing the City of New York in over 100 labor arbitrations, including contract evaluations and disciplinary disputes. In private practice, Theo has arbitrated on behalf of aggrieved security industry personnel who have sought equitable severance packages, and, who have sought to amend their CRD records of damaging, libelous inaccuracies under the complicated FINRA rules. He has also sued employers under FMLA claims.

Arbitration & Mediation
Theo has served as a member of the New York City Office of Collecting Bargaining’s List of Neutral Arbitrators since 1999, being selected as the sole arbitrator in no fewer than 15 labor relations disputes. In addition, he is a pro bono Arbitrator for Kings County Small Claims Court, often presiding over five (5) cases in a single evening. Theo has been a member of the FINRA Board of Arbitrators since 2004, selected to serve as a Public Arbitrator in arbitrations in New York and Connecticut. In his private practice, Theo has represented investors at a number of mediations, amicably resolving disputes without the expense and uncertainty of full-blown arbitration hearings.

Political Asylum
Theo has had the pleasure and privilege of advocating on behalf of oppressed peoples who arrive on our shores seeking the freedoms we often take for granted. Theo was even complimented for his work in legal immigration during a July, 2006 conversation with the Executive Director of the Minutemen Project. Millions around the globe live in fear of the “knock in the night” when the jack-booted thugs of oppression come calling, and in some instances, the outcome of an asylum case literally is a matter of life and death. Despite our often noisome debates, we are exceedingly fortunate to live in the greatest nation in the history of the planet. Theo is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and has appeared "of counsel" and as direct representative for immigrants seeking political asylum in the United States in over 100 cases since 2003, appearing in courts from Boston to Baltimore. His clients have sought refuge in the United States fleeing ethnic, political, gender and religious persecution in West Africa, China, and the former Soviet Union. In some instances, Theo offers his advocacy on a pro bono basis.
